Mobile living: read on to find out more
The first fully automatic cellular networks: the 1G generation were introduced in the mid 1980s in Scandinavia and then in the United States. The first modern network technology on digital 2G cellular technology was launched by Radiolinja in 1991 in Finland. SMS messaging also appeared in Finland in 1993 although at this point, mobile phones were still too large for anything other than installation in cars. Since then, mobile phones have become lighter and smaller and the technology has leapt forward enabling us to do more than we could perhaps have imagined. From being able to make a simple phone call anywhere in the world to being able to text images and messages to friends, to being able to send emails, access the Internet, watch movies or download music, the mobile phone is an essential item for young and old alike. With the major network companies and phone companies constantly competing to better one another in terms of deals, offers and phone technology, the choice for consumers is endless.
