Get Access to over 4 million tunes on your smartphone with Spotify
Not only will they be able to access over 4 million tracks on the Swedish music streaming service but will also have the facility to save over 3,000 songs to play offline. However, while the music service has – up to now – been free to computer users, those who will access it on their mobile phones will have to pay a subscription in order to download and save music, although it will still be free to download the application. The iPhone app service was submitted to Apple in July and subsequently approved at the end of August. It had been feared that the Swedish music service could be rejected due to competition with Apple’s iTune service. Apple iTunes with its free comprehensive library of millions of songs, is currently at the top of the digital music market. Spotify is highly regarded in the online world and is thought by many to be a viable business model. Its enthusiasm to break into the mobile market may well be due to the fact that users will be required to pay a subscription charge. At the moment, most Spotify users take advantage of the company’s free streaming service, with only one person in 50 paying a subscription. Spotify has been in operation since 2008. It has more than 2 million users in the UK and 6 million across Europe, but has not yet launched in the United States.
